On Sunday June 22nd we were on location in Dartford with the Rev-illusion Car Club to carry out a professional photoshoot of their members cars.
The shoot had been planned a few weeks in advance so the weather conditions at the time were uncertain, but as the day of the shoot drew closer we could see from the forecast that we were going to have a hot and sunny day. This meant that the club members could clean and polish their cars to within an inch of their lives, without having to worry about picking up any unwanted grime en-route to the chosen location.
The bright sunlight and deep blue skies made the paintwork on the cars look great, but it didn’t make for the easiest shooting conditions, as the dynamic range between the highlights and shadows was huge!

The location that we chose was the Crossways Business Park in Dartford. The business park has good views of the Dartford Bridge and has the ‘industrial’ feel that we were looking for. As the shoot was planned for a Sunday when most of the businesses are shut, this would also give us plenty of space to display the cars and allow us to play with plenty of different angles and compositions.
We met at a service station about half a mile from the Dartford Crossing at 10:30am, and once everyone had assembled we made our way in convoy to the location.
We found a quiet corner of the estate that we thought would provide the best backdrop, and assembled the 16 cars near by. From there we brought the cars into the shoot area one at a time and spent about half an hour photographing each car.

Once we’d finished with Craig’s car we moved on to the others, following a similar routine and making sure that we’d captured the car from all of it’s best angles. Some of the cars were more photogenic than others, but throughout the course of each shoot we got to know the cars and managed to get the shots that really captured each of their personalities.
Here are some shots of the other member’s cars that we photographed on the day:
Ollie Pound’s Vauxhall Astra
Mick Dunthorne’s Subaru Impreza
Aaron Abel’s Mini Cooper S
John Payne’s T4 VW Transporter
Ash J Dartnell’s Honda Accord
Claire Seymour’s Fiesta ST
Apart from a little sunburn and some minor grazing of the elbows from rolling around the car park floor looking for different compositions, the shoot was a lot of fun and a huge success. Here is what some of the members had to say about the final results of the shoot:
All in all the photoshoot was a huge success, and all of the members had a great day out and came away with photographs that exceeded their expectations, which is always our aim. With the members already discussing new styling ideas for their cars going into next year, I’m sure that it won’t be long before we catch up with the Rev-illusion car club and it’s members again.
